Abergavenny

Glenn Dene is a South Wales based Operating Department Practitioner, who works for Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. Born In Newport, he spent most of his life in the Cefn Fforest/Blackwood area. He is also a photographer/writer.

 

In 2017 his documentary photography project ‘Magpie’ which follows the lives of ten children with ASD was published in fourteen countries. In 2019 he published his first novel ‘Rotten Apples Comedy Club’ which reached No5 in the Amazon Comedy book Chart.

 

In 2020 Glenn signed a publishing deal with Graffeg Publishing. Behind the Mask’ Which documents the fight with Covid-19 at Nevill Hall Hospital reached No1 in the Photojournalism book chart and is being sold on high streets and online around the world. ‘Behind the Mask’ has been featured in many magazines, newspapers and has made appearances on BBC radio, BBC Wales and many radio stations.

 

One of Glenn’s Covid-19 images was 1 of 100 photographs selected from 32,000 entries as part of the ‘Hold Still’ project curated by the Duchess of Cambridge and is part of a digital exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery and around London.

 

He appears on photography and anaesthetic podcasts where he talks about his process in capturing the truth through his lens. 120 images captured during the Pandemic have been printed and preserved at the National Library of Wales.

 

On 31st August 2021’The Second Wave’ was published through Graffeg Publishing and Glenn continues to document the Third Wave within the NHS.

 

Glenn also experiments with self-portraits and exhibited at ‘Thru the Lens Gallery’ Hay-On-Wye. “Exhibiting at the ‘Men Open Up’ exhibit is one of the highlights of my short photography career.”

 

Glenn’s self Portrait ‘When the wife’s away’ is the front cover of rock band Stay Voiceless’ new album ‘Lies to tell your Children.’

 

Glenn has photographed Michael Sheen and his images were printed in Emmy Magazine’ LA. In 2018 he collaborated with singer ‘Rhydian’ to plan and shoot his album cover and calendar. He has also worked with Rock And Roll Circus at the HRH Festival. Interviewing and photographing former Hanoi Rocks’ Lead Singer ‘Michael Monroe.’ 

 

He has signed a book publishing contract with Graffeg Publishing for a book based on ‘The Welsh.’ Which includes; Shane Williams, Alix Popham, Aled Sion Davies, Matt Pritchard, Uzo Iwobi and many more. The aim of ‘The Welsh’ is to celebrate the inspirational people of our small country while telling their story.

 

Glenn lives in Abergavenny with his wife, two children and labrador. Glenn is happiest when he is photographing his children and walking the hills of Abergavenny. Currently he has thousands of images from in and around Abergavenny from the streets to the hills. He will often be found walking with his dog ‘Max’ or strolling round Abergavenny with a camera on his shoulder.
